Tour around the Nordfjord

A tour around the Nordfjord: Ferje Anda-Lote, Hennebygda-Randabygda-Blakset (Panoramaveien), Stryn, Loen, Olden, Innvik, Utvik, Byrkjelo.

Stops you can make along this route are:

Tvinnefossen, the waterfall. A walk from half an hour to a few hours, depending on the route you choose and what you want to see. At the waterfall itself there is a kind of platform from which you can watch, but more fun is the path that takes you behind the waterfall. The path to this point, from the parking lot, takes about half an hour, is easily accessible and fairly flat. From here you can take the same path back to your car, but there is also a steep, but nice, forest path to an old sawmill at the very bottom of the waterfall. From there there is another path towards the road, which leads you back to the starting point. It is best to park at the school in Randabygda.

A little further along the same road, the so-called Panoramaveien, you will come across Sagedammen. A kind of open-air theater with a small water mill and a circular walk past, among other things, a wild herb garden.

Then Stryn follows with a nice shopping center, or stop for an ice cream at the gas-station next to the roundabout.

Then on to Loen where you can take cable car up for a cup of coffee in the restaurant on the top. But there is also a Via Ferrata, a guided climb over steep sections and rope bridges. If you don't want it all so crazy, there is, for example, an escape through Lodalen with a short walk to the Kjenndalsbreen glacier.

A little further along the route we find Olden. From there a road goes to another glacier, namely Briksdalsbreen. This one is more touristic with a souvenirshop. The walk to the glacier takes about 45 minutes and does not have much difference in altitude.

We are almost back when we encounter Liatunet between Innvik and Utvik. A farmyard from the old days, a small farm museum.

After Utvik we cross the mountain again to the Breim side. But not before enjoying the beautiful view over the Nordfjord; Skjørbakkane viewpoint.

Then we drive over the top and may come across sheep, cows or goats. So be extra careful.

On top of the Utvikfjell is a parkinglot, opposite the ski lifts, and from there it is also beautiful to take a walk. There are several støylen overthere to see.

When we have left all that behind, we get a view of Breim valley.

Then we reach Byrkjelo where you can get something to eat at, among others, the Thai restaurant at the junction with the E39. Or turn left there and just past the gas pump, there you will find Bakar-Jon, who serves fries, burgers and pizza of very decent quality.
